What to expect from my kids first Jiu-Jitsu class?
Your child’s first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class is an exciting milestone, but it’s completely normal for parents to have questions. Will my child participate? Will they be nervous? What will they actually learn?
At Agape Jiu-Jitsu Academy, we understand that every child is different. Some children run onto the mats with excitement, while others need a little time to feel comfortable. Our goal isn’t to rush the process—it’s to create a positive first experience that builds confidence from the very beginning.
Our Little Ninjas program is led by Coach Annmarie, Owner and Head Little Ninjas Instructor, with Coach Jacob, Owner and Head Adult Instructor, assisting during Little Ninjas classes. Together, they create a safe, structured, and encouraging environment where every child can learn at their own pace.
A Warm Welcome From the Moment You Arrive
From the moment your family walks through our doors, you’ll be welcomed into a friendly and supportive environment. We understand that first impressions matter, especially for young children.
Coach Annmarie takes time to introduce new students to the class, explain what will happen, and help each child feel comfortable before training begins. There is never pressure to be perfect or know exactly what to do.
Expect Structure, Not Chaos
Our Little Ninjas classes are carefully organized to give children consistency and routine. Students learn where to line up, how to listen to instruction, how to work with partners, and how to participate respectfully.
Children thrive when they know what to expect, and our structured classes help them develop confidence while making learning enjoyable.
Your Child Doesn’t Need Experience
Many parents worry that their child will be behind because they’ve never participated in martial arts before. The truth is, almost every Little Ninja starts as a complete beginner.
Our instructors introduce every lesson in simple, age-appropriate steps so children can experience success from their very first class.
Building Confidence One Small Victory at a Time
Success during a first class isn’t measured by how many techniques a child remembers.
Sometimes success simply means stepping onto the mat, listening carefully, participating in an activity, or working with a new friend. These small victories build confidence that continues to grow with every class.
Learning Important Life Skills
While students begin learning the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, our primary focus for children ages 4–7 is helping them develop valuable life skills.
Every class helps children improve their ability to:
- Follow directions
- Pay attention to instruction
- Work respectfully with classmates
- Take turns and cooperate
- Build confidence through positive experiences
- Show respect for instructors, teammates, and themselves
These lessons often carry over into school, home, and everyday life.
Parents Are Part of the Journey
One of the most rewarding moments for parents is seeing their child’s growth over time. Many families notice improvements in confidence, focus, listening, and social skills after just a few weeks of consistent training.
Our instructors are always available to answer questions and help parents understand what their child is learning throughout their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey.
Every Child Learns at Their Own Pace
No two children develop exactly the same way, and that’s perfectly okay. Some students become comfortable immediately, while others take a little more time to build confidence.
