What is my child’s first class actually going to be like?

Your Child’s First Little Ninjas Class: What to Expect

Starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an exciting milestone for both children and parents. At Agape Jiu-Jitsu Academy, we understand that your child’s first class can bring a mix of excitement, curiosity, and maybe even a few nerves. That’s completely normal.

Our Little Ninjas program, designed specifically for children ages 4–7, is built around creating a fun, safe, and encouraging environment where every child can learn at their own pace. Led by Coach Annmarie, Owner and Head Little Ninjas Instructor, with Coach Jacob, Owner and Head Adult Instructor, assisting during class, our goal is to make every child’s first experience a positive one.

Don’t Expect Perfection

Many parents worry that their child won’t listen perfectly, remember every instruction, or participate in every activity. The truth is, we don’t expect any of those things during a first class.

Some children jump right onto the mats with excitement. Others take a little longer to warm up. Both reactions are completely normal, and our instructors know how to encourage each child without making them feel pressured.

Learning the Structure of Class

During their first visit, your child will begin learning the routines that make our Little Ninjas program successful. They’ll learn where to line up, how to listen to instruction, when it’s time to move, and how to safely work with other students.

These simple routines help young children become more confident while teaching valuable life skills that extend beyond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Building Confidence Through Small Victories

Success isn’t measured by how many techniques your child learns during their first class.

Sometimes the biggest accomplishment is simply stepping onto the mat, introducing themselves to another student, following directions, or participating in an activity. Every one of these small victories helps build confidence that grows with each class.

Learning to Work with Other Children

One of the most valuable parts of our Little Ninjas program is learning how to be a good teammate. Children practice taking turns, listening to partners, showing respect, and encouraging one another throughout class.

These social skills often become just as valuable as the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques themselves.

Fun with a Purpose

Our classes are energetic, engaging, and enjoyable, but every game and drill has a purpose. Children develop coordination, balance, body awareness, and fundamental Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu movements while staying active and having fun.

Keeping young students engaged helps them build a lifelong love for learning and training.

Parents Are Part of the Journey

We encourage parents to watch their child’s progress and celebrate every step along the way. Many families tell us they begin noticing improvements in confidence, listening, focus, and respect both at home and at school after just a few weeks of consistent training.

Our instructors are always available to answer questions and help parents understand what their child is learning throughout their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey.

Your Child’s Journey Starts with One Class

Every black belt was once a beginner, and every confident child starts with a first class. Our goal isn’t to create perfect Little Ninjas overnight—it’s to help every child become a little more confident, focused, respectful, and resilient every time they step onto the mats.
