What to expect from your Little Ninja doing Jiu-Jitsu
When parents enroll their child in our Little Ninjas program, one of the first questions they ask is, “What will my child actually be learning?” The answer often surprises them. While your child will absolutely be introduced to the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, our primary focus for students ages 4–7 is developing the habits and life skills that create a strong foundation for success both on and off the mats.
Under the leadership of Coach Annmarie, Owner and Head Little Ninjas Instructor, with Coach Jacob, Owner and Head Adult Instructor, assisting during Little Ninjas classes, our goal is to help every child grow in confidence, discipline, focus, and respect while having fun learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Building Strong Habits Before Advanced Techniques
Children between the ages of four and seven are in an important stage of development. Rather than expecting young students to master complex submissions or advanced techniques, we focus on helping them develop the habits that will allow them to become successful martial artists as they grow.
Every class introduces age-appropriate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals while emphasizing listening, teamwork, body control, and following instructions.
Learning to Follow Directions
One of the greatest benefits of our Little Ninjas program is helping children learn how to listen and follow directions. Throughout every class, students practice paying attention, waiting for instructions, and completing tasks one step at a time.
These are valuable skills that often carry over into school, home, and other activities.
Developing Focus and Attention
Young children naturally have short attention spans. Our classes are carefully structured to gradually increase each student’s ability to stay engaged, focus on instruction, and complete activities from beginning to end.
We don’t expect perfection. We simply encourage steady improvement every class.
Working Together with Other Children
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches children how to safely interact with others. Students learn how to be respectful training partners, take turns, cooperate, and encourage one another.
These positive social experiences help children become more comfortable working with others while building friendships inside the academy.
Building Confidence Through Small Successes
Confidence isn’t created by winning. It’s built through consistent progress.
Whether it’s remembering a technique, listening carefully, participating in class, or overcoming first-day nerves, every small accomplishment helps children develop genuine confidence that extends far beyond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Respect Is Part of Every Class
Respect is one of the core values of our academy. Students learn to respect their instructors, their teammates, their parents, and themselves.
Simple routines like lining up, waiting their turn, helping training partners, and showing good sportsmanship become habits that positively impact everyday life.
Learning Through Fun
Children learn best when they’re enjoying themselves. Our Little Ninjas classes combine structured instruction with exciting drills and games that keep students engaged while reinforcing important Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu movements and life skills.
When children enjoy coming to class, they stay consistent—and consistency is where real growth happens.
Preparing for Long-Term Success
Our Little Ninjas program isn’t designed to rush children toward advanced techniques or belts. Instead, we focus on helping every student build a strong foundation that prepares them for continued success as they move into our Youth Jiu-Jitsu program.
By developing confidence, focus, discipline, and respect first, students are better prepared to learn the technical side of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as they mature.
